1. Smeg BCC02
This sleek, compact, and striking machine, created by the Milan-based firm Deep Design combines the brand's retro style with cutting edge technology. This machine handles all stages of making coffee starting from grinding beans, the tamping of a puck and texturing milk before dispensed the correct amount.
The machine also has an elegant brushed aluminium front and comes in black, red or taupe, meaning it'll easily fit into most kitchen designs. The machine is not without flaws however. Many reviewers felt that it was quite expensive for a cup to bean maker (and does not come with an ice cube).
There were numerous glowing reviews about the machine's ease of use as well as the quality of the coffee. The digital display gives information and step-bystep instructions throughout the entire process of brewing, helping you to perfect your drink each time. It will even alert you to tweak the grind size if it's not enough. It's like having a personal home barista (minus Harry Potter's cloak of invisibility and Elon Musk's rocket-building skills).
This model is ideal for those who prefer milky drinks. The steam wand is adjustable up and down to fit a variety of drinking vessels, excluding Viking drinking horns. We were also amazed by the speed and efficiency with which the frothing was done. It makes an excellent, full-flavoured, delicious espresso with a great crema.
The BCC02 is a fantastic all-rounder that's quiet, effective and offers superb value for money at the current price of PS499. Its only real drawback is the fact that it does not offer the same degree of customization like some of the other bean to cup models we've evaluated. It has a 15 bar pump rather than the more usual 19 bars which isn't as effective to make high-quality espressos. Other than that it's a fantastic machine to make coffee for those who prefer their coffee strong and black. Users have also been impressed by the speed of the machine. They have said that it can make their drinks much faster than other machines they have used. The machine also alerts you when one of its hoppers are almost empty. This way, you won't be able to drink your favorite drink.
The price may be a problem for certain. This machine is not inexpensive, with prices that are close to PS999. However, it is far cheaper than comparable Jura machines that have the same features.
Barista TS smart is backed by a generous two-year warranty. This is more than the standard one-year guarantee. It's a mark of confidence on the part of the manufacturer.
